When the diaper manufacturer First Quality partnered with e-commerce retailer Jet and the Obama administration to participate in an initiative to expand needy families' access to diapers, one of the first steps they had to take was to rethink their packaging. The manufacturer, who makes Cutie-brand diapers, is creating a simpler, more-cost effective packaging system to bring down costs and allow them to sell to non-profits across the country at below-market rates as part of the "Community Diaper Program" spearheaded by the White House.
It's an inspiring story of government and private businesses coming together to solve a serious problem, but it's also illustrative of how important packaging can be.
